Portfolio | Metallic Lounge Part 1 | Hand & CAD Renders

As with all Interior Designers I'm constantly itching on changing things around in my home, whether it be with finishing touches or a whole new revamp. My little gripe at the moment is with my living area. Currently it's very neutral with a few warmer accents, but it's pretty bland if I'm honest so I'm looking at completely changing its appearance.
Because the living space is only relatively small, my idea was to include minimal luxe furniture and reflective surfaces to keep the area light and airy.

Metallic Lounge Part 2 will include a mood board & a product list picked out for the space.

Inspirations | Tord Boontje

Tord Boontje is one of the most recognisable brands when it comes to Interior Design. The Netherlands born designer began his design journey in 1991 studying at the Royal Collage of Art in London & has gone from strength to strength producing iconic collections such as Wednesday & Magnetic Fields. Boontje creates a variety of designs but is mostly recognised for his intricately designed laser cut lighting that displays the most fantastic shadows when switched on or dimmed.

Wednesday |
A collection based upon ordinary items embellished with extraordinary designs. Boontje features foxes, crows and rabbits upon items from this collection, this is mostly recognised through his wall hangings & lighting.

Magnetic Fields |
One of Boontje's latest collections is based highly on magnets & magnetic movements. This effect creates a futuristic, sci-fi atmosphere which is equally mirrored in the minimalist angled seating designs.

Shipwrecked |
The shipwrecked collection includes textiles, jewellery & lighting, all of which have been produced using natural materials. The natural materials & colour schemes have been used to create very organic shaped furniture, again conveying that 'shipwrecked' feeling.

Rough And Ready |
As the title suggests, this collection is a very urban & rural gathering of goods which reflect a salvaged atmosphere. Although this collection displays a level of incompleteness, it really makes a huge impact & would look great in an industrial setting.

Target |
A Christmas collection created in 2006. Boontje created 35 pieces for Target all of which displayed his highly recognisable style. He also designed the Point Of Sale displays which set the items off perfectly.

Inspirations | Design Bloggers At Home

I'm never normally influenced to purchase anything after watching adverts or youtube videos, but something extra special struck a chord with me a few weeks ago. During one of Zoellas' youtube hauls she confessed her love for Interior Design & mentioned a few books she had purchased on the subject, one being 'Design Bloggers At Home' - To me this seemed like the perfect read. I've forever been interested in Interior Design, holding a degree in the subject & continuously building my portfolio. But I've also been writing 'xclaireabella' for around 9 months now (a fashion & beauty based blog) so to me this book seemed perfect! I instantly scoured the internet for this devilish read & found it on Amazon priced at £13.59.

I was like a child at Christmas when it arrived, the packaging was ripped open straight away, a brew and buiscuts were prepared & I was snuggled up with it for the rest of the night. I don't think I've ever read a book so quick! I did manage to get throuugh Alexa Chungs' IT in less than a day, but this must have been a new record! I simply couldn't put it down.

The book written by leading Interiors Journalist & stylist Ellie Tennant takes a delve into & explores 12 Interior Design bloggers homes. Not only is this book highly laidened with images from the bloggers homes (which are amazing) but it also contains a brief description into each bloggers life & how they have designed their homes to accomodate for this. They give both style & blogging tips which are really helpful and really makes you feel you can create a home as beautiful as their own. Each Blogger has a large 10 page spread in the book, displaying blog links and with each image being referenced aproapriately if you wish to do any more research.

The book finishes with a 'How to start your own blog'  chapter, full of inspirational quotes from the bloggers involved which proove really helpful & have in turn has filled me with inspiration to take out my laptop & put my passions int words as part of 'Claire McPartland Interiors'.

Finishing Touches | French Boudoir

French Interiors always strike me as the most luxurious - They ooze glamour, sophistication & are instantly recognisable. It's becoming easier and easier to recreate this look with there being so many replica pieces available, making a much cheaper alternative to compete with what I would call 'the real deal'.

To create your French Boudoir you need a neutral colour base. Beiges, mushrooms, taupes & pastel blues are all colours that work brilliantly especially with additions of metalic tones to add that extra bit of luxury. Furniture is predominantly vintage influenced, white washed wood makes for a dramatic impact however pastel coloured woods will work just as well as long as they have that 'shabby chic' vibe to them. To tie everything in together it would be useful to bring in gold fabrics, wether it be with bed linen, throws or cushions - Selecting these in a baroque or toulle de jouy print works brilliantly.

2. Gold Lace Cushion (£19.99)
4. Glass Floor Lamp (£59.99)
5. Chateau Bedside Table (£186.00)
6. French Storage Jars (£75.00)
7. Taupe Rug (£23.00)
8. Cream Mannequin (£59.95)

Finishing Touches | Rustic Living

Rustic Interiors predominantly seem to make more of an appearance on the high street around this time of year. It seems to fit so perfectly with everything Autumn brings such as the desire to wrap up warm & drink cocoa in front of the log fire.

The key to this style is looking back at nature, incorporating untreated woods, cosy materials & an organic colour scheme. Exposing ceiling beams works superbly with this trend & makes a significant impact to the interior space. Furniture tends to have a more 'back to basics' look with raw natural woods & wrought iron detailing. This can also be mirrored in light fittings, door handles & other accessories to tie everything in together. This look is heavily textured with an abundance of throws, cushions & rugs to give an intimate cosy appearance - Perfect for this time of year.

Below are my top 10 finishing touches to create a Rustic inspired interior.

1. Decorative Stags Head (£12.00)
2. Bege Knitted Throw (£25.00)
3. Bronze Glass Leaf (£6.99)
4. Sherlock Patterned Chair (£450.00)
5. Wentworth Patterned Sofa (£925.00)
6. Downbridge Arc Floor Lamp (£217.82)
7. Wooden Lantern (£27.99)
8. Driftwood Coffee Table (£882.00)
9. Espresso Cosy Rug (£170.00)
10. Rustic Oak Fireplace Surround (£347.00)
